| ImagingBiz: Outsourced Billing: An Administrator’s Point of View, by David Myrice, CPA, MBA 02/16/2012 |
| |
The decision to outsource a radiology practice’s billing can be emotionally fraught. As a macroeconomic phenomenon, commoditization is fairly characteristic of a maturing marketplace—two words that describe radiology in the United States perfectly. What were the key challenges facing the field of emergency medicine that sparked the idea and prompted you to become a founding member of EDPMA? EDPMA was born out of a 'mini crisis' know as the Medicare Reassignment Prohibition, a change in the regulatory interpretation by CMS (then HCFA) in 1997 which affected large and small ED groups alike who contracted with independent contractor (I/C or 1099) physicians, particularly from an enrollment and billing standpoint.
